Tesla and Panasonic together to build a plant

American manufacturer of electric Tesla Motors and Panasonic Corporation of Japan signed an agreement on joint construction of a U.S. company called Gigafactory. The plant will produce batteries for models Tesla, including future crossover Model X and compact sedan Model E. 





Total investment in the plant will be about five billion dollars, and the number of jobs it will reach 6.5 thousand. 

In accordance with the agreement on the Panasonic responsible for equipping the enterprise equipment necessary for the production of batteries, and Tesla in the first phase of the project will deal with issues of land acquisition and construction of buildings. The exact location has not yet selected Gigafactory. Now companies are choosing between the five states - Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. 

It is expected that initially Panasonic will invest in the project about 190-290 million dollars, subsequently increasing the investment up to a billion dollars. Tesla in total expects to spend on plant about two billion dollars. The remaining amount must bring partners and suppliers of the American company, also involved in the project. After the launch of the plant, scheduled for 2017, as the American automaker will assemble it "batteries" Panasonic battery packs in for their cars. 



Area of ​​the plant is planned to be divided equally between the shops Tesla together with other suppliers and Panasonic. Americans will manage the enterprise, and the Japanese called "key partner." 

Company expects that Gigafactory be able to produce enough batteries to provide them up to 500 thousand cars annually. Many cars Tesla expects to produce in 2020.
