Volvo described the platform of the new XC90

The Swedish company Volvo has released further details of the platform SPA (Scalable Product Architecture), on which he will build a new SUV. 




The basis of the second-generation Volvo XC90 will be scalable global architecture, which can then become the basis for other new models of the Swedish auto giant. 

The second generation model Volvo XC90 has received a newly developed platform SPA, which will allow the car to have less weight and more evenly distribute the weight of the axes. About 90% of all components of the new architecture are brand new, including a T-shaped head LED optics, which bears the name of "Thor Hammer". 


Official representatives of the Swedish company Volvo argue that due to the wide use of high-strength steel the new SUV XC90 2015 model year will be more compact and safe. 


Inside the car, the second row of seats get a "rolling" function, which will create more space for the feet of third-row passengers, who, according to representatives of Volvo, may be growing up to 170 cm. 


The Swedish company has already told in detail about the engine range of the new Volvo XC90 SUV in 2015, which is surmounted by a hybrid power-plant combining a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a supercharger and an electric motor. 


Moreover, the usual internal combustion engine to transmit torque to the front axle and the electric motor to the rear. The total capacity of the hybrid SUV Volvo XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid will make 400 horsepower (298 kW) with 640 Nm of torque. 


Earlier it was reported that on the same electric hybrid will be able to overcome at least 40 km (25 miles). 


Official presentation of the newest SUV Volvo XC90 to be held in two weeks in Stockholm (Sweden). Serial production of the new car will begin in early 2015 at a factory in Torslanda Gothenburg.
